is Animals Australia Inc.?
Our vision is for a world where animals are not exploited for profit
or entertainment and where all animal suffering is eliminated.
Animals Australia is Australia's second largest and most dynamic
national animal protection organisation, representing some 40 member
societies and thousands of individual supporters throughout Australia.
Australia has an unprecedented track record in investigating and
exposing animal cruelty. In the past four years our work has resulted
in four 60 Minutes segments exposing the cruelty in the live export
trade and further segments highlighting animal cruelty on Today
Tonight, Four Corners and Landline. Investigations in the Middle
East have resulted in the first ever suspension of the live export
trade (to Egypt) and to a benchmark prosecution of a live export
company for cruelty.
Australia believes that we can create a better world for all through
promoting kindness to animals. Our goal is to significantly and
permanently improve the welfare of all animals in Australia.
We are committed
and unrelenting. We expose suffering, we educate the broader community,
we research alternatives and we passionately and intelligently lobby
governments to effect changes in laws to protect all animals. We
have representation on all major state and national animal welfare
We are a non-profit
charitable organisation financed through community support. Our
important work on behalf of animals is reliant on the generosity
of our members and donors.

launched in 2004 to highlight the hidden suffering of factory
farmed pigs in Australia. This high profile campaign has
enjoyed the support of caring celebrities such as James Cromwell,
Jackie O’, Rebecca Gibney and Suzie Wilks. Laws have failed
to protect millions of pigs each year from acts of cruelty. Visit

and inquisitive animals.
LiveAnimalExport-Indefensible.com: Australia is the largest
exporter of live animals in the world. Millions of animals,
mostly cattle and sheep, are exported by sea each year. Many die
on the way: all suffer. Animals Australia has conducted
numerous ground-breaking investigations into treatment of animals
in the live export industry, resulting in public outcry and government
suspensions of the trade. However, we will not rest until this trade
is ended. Visit LiveExport-Indefensible.com to find out why!
Even today, over 75% of Australia's laying hens are imprisoned
for life in battery hen cages so small that they cannot
stretch their wings. Each bird is given less space to live than
1 A4 sized piece of paper and is forced to uncomfortably stand on
and rub painfully against bare wire; day after day; night after
night. The stress of battery cage life drives many hens to peck
out their feathers, and peck their cagemates (their beaks are often
painfully sliced off to reduce this). Despite being banned in other
parts of the world, these cruel practices are legal in Australia.
Visit FreeBetty.com to find out how you can free Betty and millions
of other hens imprisoned in Australian battery hen farms.
of Cruelty: How effective is our animal protection legislation
in Australia? Does it protect ALL from suffering and acts of cruelty?
The answer is no. Tragically, the vast majority of animals in human
care in this country—some 500 million production animals—have
been excluded from the protection of our animal welfare legislation.
As a result, millions of farm animals daily endure housing
conditions and acts of cruelty that would be illegal if it instead
involved a companion animal. See the website to find out
how you can help these animals.
